Assistant Underwriter
Summary:
- Assist the Senior Underwriters with EmblemHealth’s existing and new business accounts, including Broker Accounts, within published time frames.
- Process sold new business groups. Focus primarily on HIP community rated accounts.
- Develop and maintain good working relationships between Underwriting and Marketing.
- Maintain logs and complete various reports as directed.
Responsibilities:
- Underwrite new and existing groups within the published departmental time frames.
- Review and analyze Request for Proposals (RFPs).
- Collect data and produce reports from EmblemHealth’s ER Datamart.
- Provide technical and administrative support to department.
- Prepare initial incurred claim reports and benefit modifications in response to requests from groups, brokers, or consultants.
- Communicate Underwriting needs to the Sales Representatives.
- Perform related group underwriting duties as assigned by the Manager or other Departmental Management.
- Other duties and projects assigned.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree preferably in Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, or a related quantitative field of study required
- 0 – 2+ years of relevant, professional work experience required
- Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, presentation, interpersonal) required
- Strong analytical abilities and problem‐solving skills required
- Ability to work independently and in a deadline‐oriented environment required
- Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) required
- Ability to take initiative in developing and completing projects required

Union roles covered by a collective bargaining agreement will compensate in accordance with the union contract.
